About

Using imagery familiar to the four major branches of Christianity-Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Protestant and Oriental Orthodox, the artist used the ancient icon of Christ Pantocrator  preserved in  St. Catherine Monastery at Mt. Sinai as a template for The Maranatha Icon. This icon, the earliest known of its kind, was painted in encaustic before the Body of Christ became so sadly divided.

Followers of the Risen Lord in the early church  drew the sign of the fish in the sand and on buildings as a way to identify themselves as members of the Body of Christ during a time of great persecution. Later in Church history, icons were ‘written’ to convey ‘the Gospel in paint’.

2000 years later we share ‘the sign of the fish’ and the Gospels through images using technology on the internet to prepare the way of the Lord. The Maranatha Icon was painted with modern acrylic paint and 23kt gold leaf using ancient symbols of our shared Christian  faith

Please share the image as shown on the website with your brothers and sisters in Christ through your social media channels. All copies online have been watermarked with the words ‘TheMaranathaIcon.org’ to lead people to the story behind the icon, to bring about a new spirit of fellowship among faithful Christians (John 17.20-24).

Pray as you share this digital copy of The Maranatha Icon!

It is possible that prints will be made available without the watermark in the future. First things first:

Pray for unity and share online.

May the love and the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!
